BEIRUTcrashbandicootit'sabouttimepc, June 17 (Xinhua) -- A senior Hezbollah member was killedcrashbandicootit'sabouttimepc, and three civilians were injured on Monday in Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanese villages, Lebanese military sources told Xinhua.

The sources, who spoke anonymously, said the Hezbollah member was killed after an Israeli drone targeted his car with two air-to-surface missiles as he arrived in front of his house in the southwestern Selaa village in the Tyre district.

The slain Hezbollah fighter was identified as Mohammad Mustafa Ayoub, an expert in manufacturing military equipment. He also engaged in the group's activities in the western sector of the border area of southern Lebanon.

In a separate incident, an Israeli drone fired two missiles at a house in the southeastern village of Mays al-Jabal, destroying it and wounding three civilians, including a girl who was transferred to the hospital for treatment, according to the sources.

Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border escalated on Oct. 8, 2023, following a barrage of rockets launched by Hezbollah toward Israel in solidarity with Hamas' attack on Israel the day before. Israel then retaliated by firing heavy artillery toward southeastern Lebanon.■
